Call of Duty: Vanguard's story follows the formation of the first special forces unit, Task Force Vanguard, during WWII, as diverse soldiers from different fronts (Pacific, Eastern Front, North Africa, Western Front) unite to hunt down the remnants of Project Phoenix, a secret Nazi initiative, after Hitler's death, with the narrative told through their backstories (Lucas Riggs, Polina Petrova, Arthur Kingsley, Wade Jackson) leading to a confrontation with the cunning Nazi officer Freisinger.
